Iris Millot, Opening the world – A cultural summer, 2023
Blending agricultural history and that of the Women’s Liberation Movement (MLF), Iris Millot, born in 2000, living and working in Arles, explores intimate and social strata with tenderness and humor. Her universe charmed the jury of the Dior Prize for Photography and Visual Arts for Young Talents, initiated by Christian Dior Parfums and carried out in partnership with LUMA Arles and the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie (ENSP) in Arles.
Host structure: Accueil de loisirs Rebuffel de Mougins
The project: Gathering clues, collecting traces and constructing narratives around the relationships between human beings and their environment. With the material she gleans, Iris Millot puts in tension the notions of habitability, transmission and anchoring in more common histories. In continuity with her photographic work, Iris Millot is initiating a field investigation with the children of the Mougins leisure center to look for still-visible traces of past history. Over the two weeks of the residency, the photographer intends to create a collective diary retracing the history of a territory through a series of interviews and an immersion in the municipal archives.
