Eugénie Baccot, Rouvrir le monde – Un été culturel, 202

Eugénie Baccot was born in Monaco in 1984; she lives and works in Toulon. A freelance photographer for over ten years, her author-photographer approach is rooted in documentary work. A laureate of the European Journalism Centre, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP), she received a grant for a collaborative project developed with photographer Cyril Abad. In 2022, her series “Nsenene Paradise” won the Discovery Canon prize from the Women In Photo Association.

Host structure: UNAT PACA / Cannes Jeunesse, Lérins Islands
The project: isolated and full of legends, the island is an ideal territory to fuel the imagination. The children of Cannes Jeunesse, accompanied by photographer Eugénie Baccot during their stay on the Lérins Islands, invent their own story. Whether rooted in reality or totally fictional, photographs can illustrate it. Shooting, staging and selecting images are all part of the process of building a photographic narrative.

The participants from the Cannes Jeunesse reception center drew inspiration from the memory of the prisoner in the iron mask to create masks and photographs. During the photographic creation session, Eugénie Baccot continued her personal metaphorical work on the myths embedded in island territories.
